Japanese Knotweed Translocation Services

Japanese knotweed translocation offers a smarter way to handle knotweed-contaminated soil. Instead of costly off-site disposal, the material is moved to a secure on-site zone, treated, and contained. It keeps your project moving, reduces risk, and saves money.

Why choose Eco Control Solutions translocation treatment for knotweed?

We relocate knotweed-contaminated soil to a sealed zone on site, stockpiling it on a membrane no higher than 500mm. The area is fenced off and entered into a licensed herbicide programme. It’s a cost-effective way to contain and treat knotweed without off-site disposal.

Ongoing treatment and containment

The relocated material is treated under a phased herbicide programme. The area is monitored throughout to ensure full control over time.

Residential property

Japanese Knotweed Excavation and Removal in Residential Property

Our client was the owner of a residential property with very limited access to the rear of the house, which comprised of a decked terrace overlooking a long, narrow garden, which sat several feet lower than the house. There were two infestations of Japanese Knotweed present within the garden. The first was growing underneath and around a garden shed, the second was growing in a rockery that had previously been a pond. The client opted for a full excavation and removal, rather than a treatment solution, as they had plans to redesign the garden.

Frequently asked questions

How is translocation different from excavation?

With translocation, the knotweed-contaminated soil is not removed from site. Instead, it’s relocated to a designated area on the same site, stockpiled on a geotextile membrane, and treated. It’s slower than excavation but more cost-effective where conditions allow.

What kind of sites is this suited to?

Sites with enough space to safely hold a stockpile, usually larger or phased developments. The area must be away from construction zones and suitable for secure fencing and long-term treatment.

How is the stockpile managed?

The soil is placed no higher than 500mm on a geotextile membrane and fully fenced off to prevent cross-site contamination. It then enters a herbicide treatment programme.

Is this method fully compliant?

The process follows PCA guidance and includes all required documentation along with a 10-year warranty and optional Insurance-Backed Guarantee.

How do I know if translocation is the right option for my site?

This depends on factors like available space, site layout and future land use plans. During the initial assessment, our team will review the conditions and advise whether translocation is a suitable and compliant approach.
